We Shopped Till We Found What I Wanted
Today I was shopping with determination and anticipation. Jeanne and I were not giving up until I got the black dining room set I thought was perfect. No getting tired or hungry today until I had it all ordered and ready to be delivered. I wanted to keep walking till I found it.
My best friend Jeanne was a wonderful amateur interior decorator. She had advised me on how to plan a room in the past. I helped her do some painting and shopping. Her bedroom was gorgeous, done in shades of burnt orange. It was contemporary and had large flowers on the quilt set. On the walls, she hung framed pictures of orange flowers and had pale orange curtains.
We walked through the store and over to where the dining room furniture was displayed. A salesman came over to show us which ones were available in black wood. It was hard though, to imagine how the oak sets would look if they were black. We considered all of them.
I like this one with the cushioned chairs Jeanne said. I liked it too but it was difficult to visualize the set in black. We decided to go on to another store. There was a big sale going on there anyways. As we got in the car I told Jeanne about my plans for the dining room at home.
She gave me some good advice about paint swatches and curtains. I rather liked the sheer panels with tab tops. I already had a nice Persian rug with green tones. That would go under the table. As we talked I decided round black dining room sets were what we should look at next.
A salesman approached Jeanne and I as we entered the store. I told him we were searching for one of the round dining sets that were on a pedestal. I want it in black wood I told him. He took us over to where the sets were displayed. There were quite a few to look at.
He explained the wood types and matte finish versus shiny finish. Price was important too, but not overly limiting. I wanted to know about special sale prices. He said we could work out a discount if the black set cost over a certain amount. I told him I wasn't basing my decision solely on price. Then I spotted the perfect one out of all the round dining room sets. It had a round pedestal table and six chairs.
All the paperwork had to be filled out before we could set up the delivery date. We went to the front desk and I gave the cashier my credit card. I was satisfied with next Friday as a delivery date.
I laughed and said I wondered if I had any credit left. I needed to buy a new electric rice cooker since my old one was broken. He handed me his card and said come back soon. I promised I would the next time I needed furniture. We left the store and walked to the car to drive back home.
