Unfortunately one of the shelves in my bookcase went missing during my house move last weekend. I'd really like to try to find a matching shelf, e.g. beveled edge and in antique pine, but don't want to spend too much money. Any ideas please?
This is a job for a good furniture maker, or antique restorer. But, without seeing the piece its hard to know exactly how much you are going to have to spend. The cost is also dependent on your particularity. If you want an exact reproduction, plan on spending a great deal more than getting something that just isn't to noticeable. Exact matching the color and tone, the level of distress, grain characteristics, etc, is far more art than science. I really don't believe having a lumber yard whacking off a piece of pine board is gonna fill the bill if this is a significant antique.
