Most Popular Decor Trends For 2010
The buzzword these days is Do-It-Yourself or DIY, opening opportunities for budding decorators to strut their stuff. DIY decorators must have professional advice and tips on the chore ahead. The following are the top decorating trends for 2010 as predicted by high end designers.
Metals
Metals have made their entrance, and it looks like they are here to stay. Decorators are unanimous in saying that metals will continue to be popular in 2010. There is invariably a place inside the home where metal wall decorations will shine, whether your decor is shabby chic, Mediterranean, Tuscan, modern, or Cape Cod. Elaborate metal wall grilles or metal wall candle sconces will add pizzazz to any Tuscan wall, and so will abstract metal art to any Modern wall. Over at the Shabby Chic kitchen, a distressed wrought iron wall wine rack is sure to be a conversation piece.
Staying Power of Glamour
Hollywood is Hollywood, and there can be no other to compare in style or glamour. Bobby Haines’ Hollywood Regency nebula is expected to light up the decorating sky with more of its clean lines, simple and gleaming furniture, sumptuous fabrics, chinoiserie, and bold colors in an eclectic mix of styles.
Green’s In
Ever increasingly chic buzzwords for 2010 will be "recycle", "re-purpose", and "re-use". Grass area rugs, bamboo floors, and furniture that, in another time, would have made its appointment with the city dump long ago, will be in demand. Expect consumers to be very willing to pore over the fine print in paint and other finishing products for anything that can’t be pronounced, it’s probably some harmful chemical.
An Explosion of Colors
The year 2010 will see an explosion of colors. Most experts agree that color will take center stage in the coming year, whether in canvas wall art or captured in tree wall art displayed against a neutral wall. As reported by the Pantone Color Institute, sophisticated and lively grounded hues will be popular, like red, salmon, rose, lavender, and green. ARA describes Designer Andrea Vollf as speaking of "transforming an ordinary home into a living oasis using neutrals, especially warm and cool grays, along with bold accent pieces”, with Jan Hubbard and Candice Mathers reporting a rise in the demand for deep blues by clients, and Hubbard seeing “spice, bisque, toast and green/gold tones to create a warm ambiance". According to lead designers, the color yellow will be found in every shade from Dijon mustard to sunlight.
Little Sistines
A mural can transform anything, bestowing it with attitude. Just like pilgrims to the Sistine Chapel, boring walls are transformed into conversation pieces that yield oohs-and-aahs. There appears to be no stopping the popularity of the mural. Technology has opened the floodgates - if your mind can conceive it, the murals people will make it. Metal wall decor go particularly well with wall murals.
Knocking on Wood
Wood will remain popular as it has since Noah. The sheer variety of wood and faux wood products these days make wood a popular means to jazz up any space, and, mind you, we’re not talking only about the floor, but about the ceiling and the wall as well.
