I want to adapt a short story into an immersive play. I was inspired by Punchdrunk's production of Sleep No More* and am looking to adapt something that could be done in 5-8 rooms with about 5 actors. I am looking for stories that could take place entirely in one setting like Poe's Fall of the House of Usher. Or just shout out some good short stories.
*If you haven't seen Sleep No More the play takes place in an abandoned hotel comprised of 50+ rooms and the audience is allowed to walk through the hotel as they wish. Action happens all over the place and so nobody sees the same play. There is no dialogue, just action. You are allowed to open drawers, doors, anything you like. There is even a candy shop where you are free to eat the candy. Its like a dream.
The moment I read the title of this i thought "POE!" However, there are only 3 characters in The House of Usher, so that wouldnt work too great. I dont really read short stories, so I cant give any great ideas, but try searching "gothic short stories" or look into some norse mythology? You might find something.
