Simple Steps For Creating A Country Style Kitchen
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to décor, but most find the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of a country-style kitchen very appealing. The kitchen area is often considered to be the heart of the home. In most homes, this is the place where the family congregates to enjoy good food and good conversation. If you’re looking to incorporate an old-time country look and charm in your kitchen, here are some ideas and tips to get you started.
Country Style Brings the Farm to Mind
A country-style kitchen often has a good deal of early American character. A farmhouse often comes to mind in this style of décor. Perhaps this is because roosters, cows, hens, pigs, and other farm animals are frequently on display. Typically, the theme will center on one particular animal. However, it works just as well to use a combination of animals, displaying them in various locations around the room.
Central to the Theme Is the Kitchen Table
Usually, country-themed kitchens are one big room. Therefore, you often find the table in the kitchen itself rather than a separate dining area. This is why it’s essential to have country-style tables and chairs. Choose high-backed wooden chairs with cushioned or decorated seats. Or for even more old-time charm, find a solid wood table that still has knots visible from the original tree. With a hutch or buffet, you can complete the furnishings for the room.
Antique Touches Add Charm
The best part about a country-style kitchen is that many of the accessories you need can be found at flea markets and garage sales for very little money. You can create a look of years gone by at grandma’s house by adding an old butter churn or iron skillet to the décor. An old butter mold can be displayed on the countertop, while you hang old cast-iron skillets in varying sizes on a wall. As long as the accent or trivet looks like a relic from a long time ago, it will be perfect for this type of décor.
Carry Through with a Theme
If you settle on one central country theme for your kitchen, be sure you carry it throughout. Thus, if your theme is roosters, then use them everywhere. There are so many rooster-patterned accents you can add, such as cookie jars, canisters, hot pads, dish towels, and clocks.
Coordinate Your Windows
Curtains that coordinate with the colors in the room should be used for the windows. In a country decorating theme, common colors include golden yellow, blue, dark green, brown, and rustic hues such as dark red or rust. You can either go with a solid or choose a pattern that complements the rest of the décor. Another option is wood shutters, which go perfectly with this type of decorating style.
Choose Lighting with Charm
When you’re looking for lighting, keep in mind that nothing adds more charm than a wrought-iron chandelier. This style isn’t too elegant or dressy, which makes it more appropriate for country decorating than most other styles. When hung over the table, this will keep the atmosphere cozy and comfortable.
Complete your charming country kitchen by placing a basket filled with fresh fruit or pine cones and other natural foliage in the center of the table. Country has everything: charm, beauty, and the warmth of family gatherings.

Is Timbermate wood filler a good product for filling holes and cracks in an antique heart pine wood floor?
No.
Wood filler should never be used on any floor. It does not adhere well. Shrinks and cracks far to easily. Replacing or plugging the small section that is damaged is far more preferable. There are other far more productive measures to use as well.
